"If You Continue To Think Like You've
Always Thought, You'll Continue To Get
What You've Always Got"

Shopping With A Purpose

WHAT ARE WE MEETING ABOUT?

This camp conference will focus mainly on strategic partnerships - getting to know officers and members of other minority organizations, exploring ways to pursue common goals, share resources, do joint marketing and promotions, support each others' events and meetings, maybe co-locating them to better negotiate rates and other issues of interest to minority organizations. There will be fun teambuilding activities in a beautiful and relaxing setting on the water. Come and start a working relationship with other minority leaders.

DOING BUSINESS WITH MINORITIES
Diversity in the workplace adds a special richness, but also special
challenges. Effective diverse work relationships are critical to your
success. This panel will discuss the special needs and characteristics of
Asians, Hispanics, Blacks and other minorities

STRATEGIES FOR DEFEATING WORKPLACE DISCRIMINATION
While the U.S. has made huge strides in achieving equal opportunity in
employment -- and things have gotten better -- racial discrimination
persists. Many argue that it has simply taken subtler forms. Fortunately,
while the racial prejudice endures, the tactics to defeat it are more
accessible than ever before. In this session, we will discuss effective
strategies for combating racial prejudice in the workplace.

HOW TO DISTINGUISH YOURSELF AS A CULTURALLY DIVERSE CANDIDATE
Twenty years ago, many minority employees had to downplay their cultural
backgrounds on the job. But now, for perhaps the first time in American
history, employers are classifying difference as an advantage. For
employees, this is the time to maximize the benefits of cultural identity. In this session, we will look at how that can best be done.

TIPS FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS FROM ENTREPRENEURS OF COLOR
Talk about being in a minority. Minorities own just shy of 15% of American
businesses, most of them small firms, according to the U.S. Small
Business Administration's Office of Advocacy. Hispanics account for about
12.5% of the country's population and own only 5.8% of U.S. companies;
African-Americans make up 12.3% of the population and own only 4% of
firms; Asian entrepreneurs are not even in the chart although most Asians shine in the technology, medical and healthcare industries.

What do you need to do to succeed as an entrepreneur of color? This session will discuss some lessons about entrepreneurship, business opportunities in the travel, meetings and hospitality industry as well as resources for capital, business loans and other forms of assistance.

FINDING A MENTOR
Mentors can help you advance your career. What's the best way to ask
someone to be your career "godfather"? For starters: 1.Don't be blunt or demanding. Asking someone outright to be your mentor is like walking up to a stranger on the street and asking if he/she will marry you. A better approach might be to suggest a meeting or ask for some time, If the chemistry is good, the relationship will evolve from that and subsequent meetings. It's about being able to communicate with someone, and that's a two-way street.
2. Try to select people with whom you already have a connection.
3. Think about seeking advice from people with knowledge in different
areas.

These and other tips will be discussed.

FINDING THE BEST VENUE FOR YOUR EVENT
The success of an event / meeting depends to a large extent, on the venue. For starters, you need to know what resources are available. This means familiarizing yourselves with hotels, conference centers, unique venues - a daunting task for beginners. Here, you will learn how to select and negotiate the best rates in the venue of your choice. Local, national and international resources will be shared. Negotiating tips will be discussed.

FUNDRAISING STRATEGIES
Got a great idea? Wonderful! But who is going to fund it? It's a question most non-profit organizations ask everyday. Attend this session and learn tips and strategies for raising money to make those great ideas happen.

ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT GRANTS AND BUSINESS CAPITAL
There are billions of dollars in Washington available to those who know where and how to access it. In this session, you will learn how to access grants and find grants for your community organization well as contracting opportunities for your small business.

RAISING FUNDS ON eBAY, The World's Online Marketplace
eBay is The World's Online MarketplaceŽ for the sale of goods and services by a diverse community of individuals and small businesses. Today, the eBay community includes more than a hundred million registered members from around the world. People spend more time on eBay than any other online site, making it the most popular shopping destination on the Internet. In this session, you will learn how to sell your products on ebay, how to conduct an online auction and how to get listed as a charity on ebay's Mission Fish. Mission Fish allows both buyers and sellers to donate their proceeds to non-profit organizations

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE
A motivational speaker will kick off the camp conference with an inspiring message.
