Dear Colleagues
and friends,
They
say small is beautiful. Well, they must have been thinking of Portugal when they
said it. After 21 years of living here it still surprises me. I have watched
this country develop from a rural society to a bustling beautiful modern economy
while retaining all of its charm – a dowager duchess grown old gracefully. A
country that has everything even for the most discerning traveler.
Bavarian-style castles and Mediterranean beaches, casinos and art collections,
motor racing circuits and classical music festivals, fashionable marinas and
medieval monuments, golf courses and superb traditional cooking. The best of all
worlds. The call of the mountains and of the sea, glamour and peace, action and
meditation, nature and city bustle, sophisticated shopping and handicraft
markets.
All this in one small country
with a gigantic spirit. Over the last decades, Europe has
seen Portugal undergo changes that have brought it beyond recognition. The
great impulse was of course the hosting of the 1998 World Exposition an event
which is regarded as having had perhaps the greatest and most immediate impact
on our country and catapulted Portugal to ninth ranking in the most sought after
European destinations. Suddenly the meeting industry knew we existed.
We have invested a great deal of
time, love and effort in composing a programme and itinerary that will truly Wow
you! Come and join us and prepare to be dazzled – and I don’t mean just by our
smiles. I promise that this will be the best CIMPA event yet and I would truly
love to see you here. Trust in the beauty of our destination and in the
commitment of a friend to make your visit worthwhile.
Once you have seen the great
diversity that Portugal has to offer its visitors, you will easily understand
why we say that we are hospitable by nature - your greatest difficulty will
be bidding us farewell.
See you on November 5-8,
2003!!!
