Brief
Description of Project:
the resort borrowed from its surroundings as well as the talents of local artisans to feature an authentic Polynesia style visible in the property’s woodcarving, pandanus weaving, tapa cloth and mother of pearl engravings. The resort is the first hotel in French Polynesia to feature all over water bungalows (80 in total, eight of whicboast views of Mount Otemanau). The bungalows feature spacious living rooms with glass bottom coffee tables serving as aquariums, an exterior freshwater shower on each room’s private terrace and large guest baths that open onto the lagoon. The InterContinental Resort & Thalasso Spa Bora Bora features an eco-friendly air-conditioning system, deploying a 7,874 foot pipe (the deepest ocean pipe in the world) to a depth of 3,000 feet off the reef of Bora Bora. The pipe pumps ice cold, deep sea water through a titanium heat exchanger, transferring the cold into the fresh water circuit that then powers the air conditioning throughout the hotel. Indicate how the
project is meaningfully reducing global warming pollution
The first-ever, revolutionary eco-friendly air-conditioning system operates with the deployment of a 7,874 foot pipe (the deepest ocean pipe in the world) to a depth of 3,000 feet off the reef of Bora Bora. Cold sea water (5°C) is drawn from the ocean's depths and fed into a cooling station. From there, the water is sent through a pipe system parallel to a closed circuit of fresh water that travels around the entire establishment. The sea water cools the fresh water which, in turn, cools the premises it flows through, saving 90% of the electricity consumption. Even the return water is re-routed to a depth of 197 feet to avoid hurting the fish and coral.
